This month's doings in the worlds of local and independent music

Up the Junction is co-sponsoring a Back to School party at Kent State University on Friday, September 7. Three area bands will provide the music and there will also be free food, free sampler CD's, and other door prizes. Man From Glad, Trip Man Dead, and Pinki Mojo will be performing. The Merrymakers and Sloan are just some of the artists who have contributed to the tribute CD to Paul McCartney, Listen to What the Man Said, which is due in stores this month. All proceeds from the disc will go to the Garland Appeal for cancer research.

Other Merrymakers news is that the duo are writing new material at the moment, along with producing other artists in their homebase of Stockholm, Sweden. Visit www.merrymakers.com for more info.

Cincinnati band, face, have released their new CD, American Dream. www.getsomeface.com has all the details.

Lisa Mychols has replaced original bassist Scott Richards in The Waking Hours. Plus, the group has just finished a track for the upcoming Weezer tribute CD. Their choice? 'Holiday' from the first Weezer disc. More info available at www.wakinghours.com.

Treasure Island Records' latest find, The Revs, are tearing things up in Ireland. Four weeks in the Top 20, an impressive 26 shows in 26 counties, their video is all over Irish television, and their single, 'Wired to the Moon' has been getting heavy rotation on Irish radio. A new release date has been set by Lauan Records for the latest CD by LARRY. Look for it from the Lauan site (www.lauan.com) starting November 30.
